1and1, horrible customer service, site down for 5 DAYS, what more can I say. Oh yeah, one more thing, the girl on the customer service line didn't know what IIS was (I have a windows host package).

1and1.com has the worst customer service of any internet related company I have ever done business with. I am ashamed that I have referred so many people to them. Their registration fees are low, but not as low as the quality of their customer service. I have been with the company for about 2 years and currently have about 44 registered domains hosted my them. I called today for the first time with a dispute. The Customer Service representative said there was nothing he could do, apologized for the inconvenience and hung up the phone.

High number of outages (sites, IMAP servers, MySQL database connections), but very inexpensive and plenty of features. Also poor phone support - in the event of global problems a recorded script plays and then the call is disconnected. Okay for personal use, not recommended for critical business application.

If you are looking for just the minimal at a great price they are the service for you, they are also a great service if you are not concerned about how much you spend on hosting. I should have done some research before I moved my web site to 1&1...HUGE MISTAKE!!!! They trick you with low prices....Yes, unbelievably low - but when you get to the menus - 85% of the buttons are greyed out ( not accessible) because you will have to pay more to get access to the basic ones. Customer service was as helpful as they have been trained to be but beyond that it was nothing special.

Have found their support to be lacking. The FAQ's they provide are numerous but weak. I am a heavy user of PHP (I develop in it) and their use of it as a CGI rather than an Apache module is a bit of a sore point with me. Not loving it, not totally hating it but I AM wishing I had gone with a higher quality host. Oh well.

1and1 has the most affordable hosting packages. Customer support are very friendly. Though there is downtime, updates are given on time. The only reason I did not give them a 5 is because of this occasional downtime.

the website worked ok, but the technical dept. was in another country, the phillapines, and did not understand me very well. They did not know what "microsoft publisher" was, so once I added photos and text and links to my website, they could not help me. So therefore they could not answer my technical questions. I got disconnected 6 times in one day with there tech support. I was frustrated to say the least.

1 and 1 is horrendous in every way! After transferring a domain to them and receiving confirmation from them that the transaction was completed, they sold the name to someone else without letting me know. They continued to bill me and didn't even give the promised and advertised promotional discount. This caused me to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars. I was really looking forward to working with them to because the space was great, the ease of use was ideal and the overall quality was remarkable. If only they didn't end up being one of the biggest disappointments I ever experienced. I guess the next time I will read through reviews more carefully. Good Luck everyone. My emails went down as did my website. In place of my website was a 1and1 advertising page displaying my competitors ads!!! this was a major upset to me, however Joel at customer services was on top of it and fixed it up right away. Unfortunately this was not the only time I was faced with the problem. I am giving them 3 stars ONLY BECAUSE when the site is running everything is fine and customer service is very helpful when you need them. I have, however, begun to search for a new provider since this issue is becoming more common.

You cannot rely on this company for email or web site hostig. During my several years with them, we lost our website twice and our email crashed several times. For a family web site the appealing prices would make it possibly worth it, but if you use them for business, you are possibly committing suicide. The last straw came when we tried to transfer our web domains to another provider. They claim they follow ICANN rules and they do. ICANN allows a receiving provider to "take" the domain away after five days if they current host does not release it. 1and1 will not release your domain until the last minute, if at all, requiring your new provider to take it away from them. This practice is malicious and geared to wear people out so that they do not transfer domains. Who wants to do business with a company like that?

Not sure of other's experience with 1and1 but for the one year that I have been using 1and1 one they are pretty good and reliable. It is one the cheapest web hosting provider that you can find right now. The only problem I have with it is that I was streaming mp3 with a php script and it cost error because there were too many people on my site so it wasn't really 1and1's fault since I am on a shared server. But without the streaming script it runs fine. I recommend 1and1 to others too.
